Since we brought our idea of animal-free cell culture to life, our company has grown. As a result, our team is steadily expanding.
Our interdisciplinary team is composed of specialised and experienced colleagues who cover different business areas. We all love to work together as a team while putting a lot of emphasis on communication, empathy and equality. And of course we all share the mission to change cell culture with our animal-free products!

PL BioScience was founded in 2015 as a spin-off of the RWTH Aachen University. But our story goes back to 2013, when our CEO, Dr. Hatim Hemeda, worked in stem cell research: He achieved best results with an own-produced human platelet concentrate. Since it was not commercially available, he developed a patent-protected technology for a scale-up production of the platelet-derived cell culture supplement. PL BioScience holds this patent and offers standardised Human Platelet Lysates that ensure reproducible results.
Dr. Hatim Hemeda is a molecular biologist with numerous international academic cooperations in biomedical technology and cellular engineering. Thus, he has more than ten years of experience in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology and stem cell research. Prior to setting up PL BioScience, Hatim worked at Helmholtz-Institute for Biomedical Engineering of the RWTH Aachen University. There, he developed protocols that allow for reliable isolation of stem cells by automated methods.
Christian Wilkes is responsible for the business planning and commercial analysis at PL BioScience. He obtained a bachelor in business administration from FH Bocholt and an MBA in Entrepreneurship from FH Aachen. Prior to his engagement at PL BioScience, Christian was the CEO of Bio-Diagnostix Labor GmbH, Velen. Within this position, he was responsible for the commercial management of the company.
Dr. Siegfried Ebner is responsible for business and organisational development at PL BioScience since 2020. He has over 25 years of experience in life sciences and held roles across R&D, Manufacturing, Business Development and Licensing and Venture Build. Most recently, Siegfried was responsible for Innovation with focus on Devices and Technologies at Grünenthal.
