PL BioScience, a spin-off of RWTH Aachen University, has been driving innovation in sustainable cell culture media since 2015. Our Human Platelet Lysates (HPL) are trusted by research labs and cell therapy developers around the world.

To accelerate our growth and push the boundaries of animal-free cell culture, we are looking for a dedicated Research Associate (m/f/d) –Bioreactor Cell Culture & Media Optimization to strengthen our R&D team. 💼 Your Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be an essential part of our laboratory team, supporting the development, production, and testing of our innovative HPL products. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Design, plan and execute laboratory experiments with focus on perfusion culture in 3D bioreactors.
  • Develop and optimize 2D and 3D cultures with primary cells and cell lines.
  • Formulate, test, and optimize cell culture media, with focus on HPL-based applications.
  • Cultivate cells under GxP conditions to ensure compliance with guidelines for cell banking.
  • Analyze, document, and prepare clear and accurate results to support strategic decisions.
  • Establish and validate analytical detection methods for various relevant biological molecules.
  • Support laboratory organization, including maintenance of equipment and improve workflows.
  • Maintain quality assurance and follow GxP standards.

 

🎓 What You Bring to the Table

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following qualifications:

Must-haves

  • Completed training as BTA, MTLA, Biology Lab Assistant, or a Sc. in Biotechnology (or related field) with hands-on lab experience.
  • Hands-on experience with perfusion-driven bioreactor systems.
  • Practical experience working with cell lines and primary cells.
  • Strong understanding of media development and cell culture optimization.
  • Familiarity with GxP environments and quality-driven workflows.
  • Structured, detail-oriented working style with strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work both self-organized and collaboratively in a dynamic R&D environment.
  • Experience with Human Platelet Lysates (HPL) is a strong advantage.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Solid experience with MS Office and familiarity with analytical software such as GraphPad.
